This is a Thanksgiving favorite that has been on family’s tables for hundreds of years. My recipe is the best because you make it a day ahead of time and just reheat it Thanksgiving day.
Ingredients
6 Yams – cut into ½ inch half moon slices
1 cup orange juice
1-cup sugar
1 stick salted butter
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ cup light brown sugar
Procedure
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a baking dish place the slices of yams in saucepan combine butter, OJ, sugar and spices. Heat over medium heat until butter melts and ingredients are combined. Pour the mixture over the yams. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the yams. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes or until the yams are tender and the liquid has reduced to a thick sweet glaze. Refrigerate overnight and reheat just before serving.
